Indian Classical Music is a great tradition also known as Hindusthani or Hindustani Classical Music or North Indian Style of Indian Music which has its origin and roots in the rich Vedic Indian Culture that further evolved with mixture of various traditions of music. During the Muslim rules in India the Irani Music or Persian Music also contributed to the development of Khayal style of Gayaki or singing and became very popular particularly in the North India. The South India preserved and enriched the Carnatic Style of Singing, which is rich and different in style from the Khayaal Gayaki.
The Hindustani Classical Music in recent Era in India was nourished under the Guru Shishya Parampara or Gharana tradition where Eminent Musicians or Ustads of Indian Music established their own schools of Music and young and talented students and followers of the Guru learn the intricacy and Gharana style of Music as permanent residents until they are allowed to perform independently. The Indian Classical Music in the present context is also spreading through the Academic Institutions in India in Colleges and Universities as one of the subjects in undergraduate and Post Graduate studies and also allowing Research / PhD and other Fellowships, while the tradition of personal professional training under the Guidance of Music Guru’s of Great Repute in India still continues ..
